6 October – Construction Workshop – 40m EFHW Antenna
October 6 @ 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm
Free1:30 to 4:30 pm Johnsonville Community Centre room 1A, 3 Frankmore Avenue, Johnsonville. This workshop will be led by Daniel ZL2DTL. This is an opportunity to build an HF antenna for a fixed budget. We will provide a complete set of parts for a 40 metre End Fed Half Wave (EFHW) antenna for $85.
The EFHW antenna will tune up on all bands (although performance on 160m and 80m will be down a bit). It requires 20 metres of space and two end supports. The feedpoint can be at either end.
A 50 ohm coaxial feedline (10m) is included with two PL259 terminations. You can add to the coax feedline at $2.50 per metre. The kit includes a 9:1 unun in a sealed enclosure complete with SO239 connection and binding posts. 20m of antenna wire, insulators and a 10m counterpoise or earth connection wire are all included. The kit can readily be adapted for use as an end-fed random wire (by simply adding more wire) or can be converted to a dipole (with the purchase of a T200-2 toroid from Interlec).
The kit will cost $90. This is an appreciable saving on similar kits available in NZ from major retailers (but often including lower quality components).
On 6 October, we will assemble the antennas. To finish your install at your home QTH, you will need to provide your own support masts. We will discuss options at the workshop.
Please pre-register below for the HF antenna construction event.
